Lekkerland shop concept Frischwerk® honoured by renowned industry association NACS
Highest international award for Lekkerland’s shop concept13. July 2017
There had never been anything like it: a German convenience format winning the prestigious “International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award – Honorable Mention” in the “small formats” category. The coveted award is presented by NACS, the National Association of Convenience Stores, the sector’s leading international industry association, with a membership of more than 2,100 connected convenience retailers and 1,600 suppliers.
The award recognises Lekkerland for its conceptual design and implementation of the Frischwerk® test shop concept, which is breaking new ground and setting new innovative standards for the industry and, in particular, the filling station distribution channel. Frischwerk® won through against numerous applications from around the globe. A total of ten shop formats made it to the final round. It marked the first time a German company had been featured in the awards ceremony.
“We are very proud of this international award, which is well established and highly regarded in the industry. It proves that focussing on ‘retail enablement’ is the right approach,” said Patrick Steppe, CEO of Lekkerland AG & Co. KG. For the company, “retail enablement” comprises solutions for modern convenience stores and filling stations which satisfy consumers’ preferences and needs and make customers’ shops successful in an increasingly intense competitive environment. “We’d like to be the preferred 360 degree service provider and adviser for our customers,” Patrick Steppe added.
„Lekkerland deserved to win this award since the Frischwerk® shop concept is truly impressive”, Christian Warning, NACS representative in Germany, Austria and Switzerland says. “Lekkerland has developed from a wholesale and logistics company into a provider of holistic solutions and concepts for its customers. By doing so, the company serves as a role model for the whole European convenience sector.”
At the NACS Insight Convenience Summits – Europe, held in London, Henry Armour, president and CEO of NACS, presented the award to Patrick Steppe, Frank Fleck, Senior Vice President Corporate Business Development, and Daniela Aldenhoven, Project Manager for Frischwerk®. “For us, this honour is a recognition and encouragement at the same time, prompting us to continue consistently along the path upon which we’ve started out,” Frank Fleck remarked. “We look forward to continue refining and establishing Frischwerk® in the market together with our customers.”
